One puppy, a love of shooting, and a farm in Oxfordshire that has turned into kennels, planned litters and a team of five Labradors.
Henry grew up on the farm, surrounded by working dogs and the countryside for as long as he can remember. Shooting and the outdoors were never really a hobby he picked up. They were just part of growing up here, and it's where his love of working Labradors first started.
That early start grew into something more: a genuine interest in training, in understanding how a dog thinks, and in building the kind of partnership where handler and dog are properly working as one. For Henry, what a dog can do in the field has always mattered less than the bond behind it: the trust and companionship built over time, one small step at a time.
Above all, Henry is an animal lover first. Every dog at Pittfield gets the same time, patience and care he'd want for his own, and some of his best friendships have come through the wider gundog community that surrounds it.
Maya is Henry’s partner, and there is very little here she isn’t part of. The litters above all: she is there for the whelping, through the broken nights that follow, and across the eight weeks of rearing before a single puppy goes anywhere.
That is the stretch that decides what kind of dog a puppy becomes. Handling them daily, getting them used to noise and footfall and being picked up, watching which one is bold and which one hangs back, and matching the right puppy to the right home.
It is why owners tend to write to both of them afterwards, not just Henry. If you have had a puppy from us, there is a good chance you have met her.
